At Foundational Health Center, we have found Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) to be very successful for a number of our patients. In fact, this therapy is being used by many professional athletes to aid in healing and recovery time from sports-related injuries.
“PRP injected areas heal better and cause less problems than those treated with steroids.”
PRP requires drawing a patient’s blood, spinning it down to produce a serum consisting of platelet growth factors and a few stem cells, and injecting it back into the troubled joint, muscle, or wound, essentially fertilizing the area and causing it to heal more quickly; the added benefit being that since you are injecting back into your body (only what has been taken from yourself), there is no risk of allergic reaction. Additionally, studies observing PRP vs. steroids have found that over the long-term – two years or more – the PRP injected areas heal better and cause less problems than those treated with steroids.
What is Ozone Therapy?
Ozone is an extremely safe medical therapy that has been used for decades in Europe. It is comprised of 3 oxygen atoms to create the “O3″ ozone molecule. Studies of ozone done over the past century have shown its chemical compound is capable of killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungus almost instantaneously. In fact, cities all over the world have been using ozone for more than a hundred years to cleanse water supplies.
Medical ozone is a type of therapy used to aid in healing by reducing inflammation and boosting the immune response. Since pure oxygen is used to create medical ozone, it is considered, by some, to be the safest medical therapy ever devised.
Foundational Health Center has begun using ozone in addition to PRP treatments to increase the oxygen content to the stressed area of the body, taking PRP therapy to a whole new level of effectiveness. We have seen very encouraging results from this form of treatment, not only for common joint issues and wounds, but also people with various back problems such as sciatica or disc problems. This treatment, called Prolozone, aims to not only be highly effective in helping relieve pain, but to aid the healing process, possibly helping to even regenerate cartilage.
